Martyn's Law readiness check

Condensed from the full readiness checklist in the Compendium. Answer honestly: an unsure is more useful to you than an optimistic yes.

1Have you estimated, and recorded how you estimated, the number of people who may be present at the same time?
2Have you identified your tier, and any qualifying events held at the premises?
3Have you identified the responsible person, and agreed how you cooperate with others where control is shared?
4Is there a written evacuation procedure for a terrorist incident, including alternative routes and dispersal?
5Is there a written invacuation procedure identifying safer areas inside?
6Is there a written lockdown procedure, including how doors and entrances are secured and who does it?
7Is there a procedure for communicating with people on the premises during an incident?
8Do the procedures cover all opening hours, including low staffing periods, and address the needs of disabled people, children and other vulnerable people?
9Have staff been trained in the procedures, and do they know their roles?
10Have the procedures been exercised, and the results recorded?
11Are you ready to notify the SIA once the notification system opens?
12Has a terrorism risk assessment been completed and recorded, with decisions not to adopt measures recorded with reasons?

A self-check, not a compliance assessment

These twelve questions are condensed from the full readiness checklist in the Compendium, which runs to twenty-one and separates standard tier from enhanced tier duties. Working through this version tells you where the obvious gaps are. It does not tell you whether what you have in place is adequate, which is a judgement about your premises that cannot be made from a web page.

No consultancy can guarantee your compliance, and the regulator endorses nobody. The responsibility stays with the responsible person.

The full checklist, and the method behind it

The twenty-one point readiness checklist sits in the Compendium alongside fourteen other working appendices. The assessment method sits in the Risk Assessment Guide. Both are tailored specifically to Scotland.
